Quick Fact Sheet
North Seminole - Sanford Little League
is part of Little League International
of Williamsport, P.A., one of the largest and most sophisticated organized
youth sports program in the world (should you have a few minutes, you can go
to
www.LittleLeague.org to see how well it is organized and managed... and all by volunteers).
Little League’s Child Protection Program, ASAP Safety Program, the extensive
background checks of its’ volunteers, and the inclusion of the special needs
children (Challenger Division), are years ahead of other youth sports
programs.
In
our District, there are
9,872+
children
eligible to play
Little League baseball or softball. The only other organization capable of
helping these children is the Sanford City Recreation League, which does a
great job each Spring, but can only accommodate up to 600 children and has
no
softball program available, no Fall program, no scholarship
program, and most importantly, no opportunity for Special Needs
children to participate.
In
comparison to the other cities in Seminole County, Sanford has the
highest number of children.
42% are Black & Hispanic; Altamonte
comes in 2nd with 25%. 13% of
Sanford families are below poverty level; Casselberry is next
having 6.2%.
Our
organization is committed to providing the following:
a field that is
handicapped accessible to provide for our community's special needs children,
a scholarship program that will allow
financially challenged families to participate,
and a softball program that our community currently does not have.
The
goal of
SLL’s Board
of Directors,
who are all volunteers, is to have the
Wayne M Densch Fellowship Park
operating in 2008, at which point it will provide 600+ children the
opportunity to participate each Spring and Fall during regular season
play, as well as offering Top Team and All Star tournament play
during the summer months and events for the
Challenger
Division’s special needs program.
