The Newspaper Article…

As President of Sanford Little League, George Pihakis II had approached numerous land developers in an effort to obtain the land necessary to build fields for all our children to play. All of his requests fell on deaf ears, including some of the most prosperous developers in our county.

Then, in the Summer of 2006, thru a series of serendipitous events including George Pihakis II asking a Bible Study group to pray that land would be donated to Sanford Little League; Lakeside Fellowship Church’s new Pastor, Cameron Lashbrook, sitting at his desk overlooking vacant land that the Church owns and envisioning a sports complex that would minister to children; and an Orlando Sentinel Staff Writer named Gary Taylor writing an article entitled “Let’s Play Ball! But Where?” which discussed the lack of playing fields in our area (THE ARTICLE that ultimately brought George and Pastor Cameron together to breathe life into their shared vision), a lease was forged between the League and the Church.

This long-term lease between Lakeside Fellowship United Methodist Church and Sanford Little League effectively donates 5 ¾ acres of land for $1 a year for the next 25 years and the opportunity, thru the generosity of the people in our community, to build a youth sports complex for Sanford Little League.
